Best places to visit in India in April 2025

April is a challenging month for Indian travel — most of the plains are hot (35–45°C), but it opens up some of India's best destinations that are inaccessible in winter. Here's where to go for a great April trip.

Best destinations

Hill stations (escape the heat)

Manali, Himachal Pradesh: April marks the opening of Rohtang Pass and the start of the Himalayan season. Snow still covers higher altitudes, making for dramatic landscapes. Apple blossom season paints the valleys pink and white. Temperatures: 5–15°C. Ideal for trekkers and adventure seekers.

Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka: April is peak bloom season for coffee estates. The Rolling Hills of Coorg are lush green. Rainfall begins in late April but the first rains make the waterfalls spectacular. Temperature: 15–25°C. Perfect for couples and wildlife enthusiasts (Nagarhole is nearby).

Darjeeling, West Bengal: April is tea plucking season — the famous First Flush Darjeeling tea is harvested. Kanchenjunga is visible on clear mornings. Flower Festival in April. Temperature: 8–18°C. Toy train rides through blooming rhododendrons.

Beaches (before monsoon)

Andaman Islands: April is the last month before monsoon shuts down Andaman. Crystal clear water, excellent snorkelling at Havelock Island (Radhanagar Beach), and uncrowded conditions. Book 2–3 months ahead — limited accommodation on the islands.

Gokarna, Karnataka: Less crowded alternative to Goa. Om Beach and Half Moon Beach are peaceful in April. South Indian beach town with temple atmosphere. Drive or bus from Goa (3 hours) or fly to Goa and continue by road.

Cultural destinations

Hampi, Karnataka: The ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire are stunning in April golden light. Hot (36°C) but early mornings and evenings are comfortable. The Hampi Utsav (festival) sometimes falls in April.
