Maruti Brezza vs Tata Nexon — India's compact SUV battle

Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon together account for nearly 25% of India's compact SUV segment sales. Both are priced between ₹8–₹15 lakh and target practical family buyers. Here's how they compare.

Price

Maruti Brezza: ₹8.34–₹14.14 lakh. Tata Nexon: ₹8.10–₹15.50 lakh. Brezza's base variant starts slightly higher but tops out cheaper. CNG variant of Brezza starts at ₹9.99 lakh — Nexon has no CNG option.

Safety

This is Nexon's biggest advantage. Tata Nexon has 5-star Global NCAP. Maruti Brezza has not been tested by Global NCAP — an unacceptable omission for a family car in 2025. Brezza has 6 airbags on all variants; Nexon has 6 on mid and higher variants. For safety-first buyers, Nexon is the clear choice.

Engines

Brezza: 1.5L NA petrol (103 PS) with 5MT/6AT/CNG. Nexon: 1.2L turbo petrol (120 PS) with 6MT/7DCT and 1.5L diesel. Nexon's turbo-petrol feels more spirited in city driving. Brezza's NA engine is proven, economical, and easier to maintain. Brezza's CNG option delivers ~28 km/kg running cost — ideal for CNG city users.

Features

Both have Sunroof (Brezza from LXi+, Nexon from XZ+), 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Brezza's auto gear shift indicator and Suzuki's HEARTECT platform make it easier to drive for first-time car buyers. Nexon's larger boot (382 litres vs 328 litres) is better for families.

Ownership

Maruti's service network (4,800+ outlets, every small town in India) is unmatched. Maintenance cost is the lowest in any Indian SUV segment. Resale value of Maruti Brezza is the highest among compact SUVs — it depreciates slowest. For total cost of ownership over 5 years, Brezza is hard to beat.
