Best weekend trips from Bengaluru (2025)

Bengaluru is arguably India's best-located city for weekend travel — within 350 km you have hill stations, heritage ruins, beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, and temple towns. Here are the best options.

Top destinations

Coorg (Kodagu) — 250 km, 4.5 hours

India's coffee capital is Bengaluru's most beloved weekend escape. Misty hills, coffee and spice estates, Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat, Namdroling Monastery (Golden Temple), and white-water rafting at Dubare. Best months: October–May. Avoid monsoon (June–September) unless you want the dramatic rainfall experience. Budget: ₹3,000–₹8,000/day for mid-range homestays.

Hampi — 340 km, 5 hours

UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Vijayanagara ruins are extraordinary — leave Bengaluru Friday evening, arrive 11 PM. Full day Saturday exploring. Return Sunday. The boulder-strewn landscape is otherworldly. Best October–February.

Chikmagalur — 245 km, 4 hours

Karnataka's other coffee hill station. More rugged than Coorg — higher peaks (Mullayanagiri, Karnataka's highest at 1,930 m), better trekking. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary for wildlife. Less commercialised than Coorg. Perfect for trekkers.

Ooty — 270 km, 5 hours

Tamil Nadu's queen of hill stations. Nilgiri Mountain Railway (toy train from Mettupalayam), Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake. More developed and crowded than Coorg but children love it. Best March–June and September–November.

Gokarna — 485 km, 7.5 hours

Technically a long drive but many Bengalureans do it for a 3-day weekend. Om Beach, Half Moon Beach, Paradise Beach — each more secluded than the last. Hindu pilgrimage town with genuine beach culture. Fly to Goa and drive 3 hours, or take the overnight train.
