Best weekend trips from Delhi (2025)

Delhi sits at the epicentre of North India's best travel destinations. The Yamuna Expressway, NH58, and NH44 fan out towards Agra, Rishikesh, Jaipur, and Shimla respectively. Here's your Delhi weekend travel guide.

Top destinations

Agra — 200 km, 2.5–3 hours (or 1.5 hours by Gatimaan Express)

Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri — three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in one city. The Taj at sunrise (5:30–6:00 AM) is the most beautiful sight in India. Arrive the evening before, sunrise next morning, drive back by afternoon. Book Taj tickets online — skip the queue. Avoid Fridays (Taj closed) and winter smog (Dec–Jan can reduce visibility).

Rishikesh — 240 km, 4.5 hours

India's yoga and adventure capital. White-water rafting on the Ganges (Grade 3–5 rapids), bungee jumping (highest point in India: 83 m), trekking to Neer Garh and Rajaji Park. Beatles Ashram (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram — now a heritage walk). Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges. Excellent cafes and yoga studios. Budget: ₹1,500–₹4,000/day.

Jaipur — 270 km, 4–5 hours

Rajasthan's Pink City with Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Jal Mahal. The Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH48) is excellent. Expressway reduces drive time to 3.5 hours. Jaipur's arts, crafts, and food (dal baati churma, laal maas) are outstanding. Stay in a heritage hotel (rathon ki haveli) for full experience.

Mussoorie — 290 km, 5–6 hours

Uttarakhand's queen of hill stations. Mall Road, Gun Hill (cable car), Kempty Falls, Landour (clock tower and old British cottages — most picturesque part). Better than Shimla for Delhi visitors — equal distance but less crowded. Best March–June and October–November.

Jim Corbett — 250 km, 4–5 hours

India's oldest national park and the best tiger reserve in North India. Dhikala zone safaris require advance booking (corbettonline.co.in) — book 3–4 months ahead for weekends. Bijrani and Jhirna zones easier to access on shorter notice. Best November–June.
