MacBook Air M3 vs Dell XPS 13 — India comparison

Two of the world's most popular premium ultrabooks compete for Indian professionals willing to spend ₹80,000–₹1,30,000. MacBook Air M3 starts at ₹1,14,900; Dell XPS 13 Plus starts at ₹89,990. Both are exceptional machines with very different philosophies.

Performance

Apple M3 chip is in a different class for single-threaded performance and power efficiency. In our Geekbench tests, M3 scores 3,100 (single) vs Dell XPS 13's Intel Core Ultra 7 155H at 2,400. For creative work — video editing, Lightroom, Xcode — MacBook Air is significantly faster. For Office productivity, both are identically snappy.

Battery life

MacBook Air M3 lasted 14.5 hours in our real-world browser + document test. Dell XPS 13 lasted 7.5 hours. This is the single biggest difference. In India where power cuts and meetings away from outlets are common, MacBook Air's battery life is transformative. You genuinely leave the charger at home.

Display

Dell XPS 13 Plus: 13.4-inch OLED 2.8K 120 Hz — the most beautiful laptop display available. Colours are stunning, blacks are perfect, and 120 Hz makes scrolling buttery. MacBook Air M3: 13.6-inch Liquid Retina 60 Hz — excellent colour accuracy and brightness (500 nits) but no OLED and no high refresh rate. For content consumption, XPS 13 wins. For outdoor use, MacBook Air's higher brightness is better.

Ports and connectivity

MacBook Air: 2× Thunderbolt 3, MagSafe, headphone jack. Dell XPS 13 Plus: 2× Thunderbolt 4, headphone jack (no USB-A). Both require dongles for USB-A devices — disappointing at this price point. MacBook Air's MagSafe charging means your Thunderbolt ports stay free.

Software and ecosystem

macOS Sequoia is polished, virus-resistant, and integrates seamlessly with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Windows 11 Pro on Dell XPS is more compatible with Indian business software (Tally, government portals, banking apps) and enterprise environments. For IT-managed corporate laptops, Windows is usually required.

Repairability in India

Dell has nationwide service centres including Tier 2 cities and on-site warranty options. Apple's authorised service is good in metro cities but thin in smaller towns. MacBook Air's soldered RAM and SSD mean no upgrades are possible after purchase — choose your configuration carefully.
