Gap between cheapest & priciest route

The single most striking fact about Indian entrance coaching in 2026 is the ~100× spread between the cheapest and most expensive credible way to prepare. A disciplined student can cover the full syllabus online for roughly ₹5,000–25,000 a year; a family sending a child to Kota for a two-year residential programme will spend ₹5–8 lakh all-in. Both routes produce selections every year. The right choice is about a student's discipline and a family's budget — not about who spends the most.

NEET coaching fees, 2026

Two-year classroom NEET programmes cluster in the ₹2–4 lakh band; the disruption is entirely online.

IIT-JEE coaching fees, 2026

JEE classroom fees run slightly wider than NEET, with FIITJEE at the top of the range and Resonance/Allen offering the classroom mid-market.

Finding: classroom NEET and JEE fees are now essentially the same across the big brands (₹2–4 lakh). The real price decision isn't which brand — it's which delivery model: Kota residential, a local branch, or online. That single choice moves the total cost by ₹4 lakh or more.

Kota vs local branch vs online — the three cost models

The same student, aiming for the same exam, can spend wildly different amounts depending only on where they study:

ModelFees (2 yrs)Living / extraAll-in (2 yrs)
Kota residential₹2–4 lakh₹1.5–2 lakh/yr hostel + mess₹5–8 lakh
Local city branch₹1.5–4 lakhNil (live at home)₹1.5–4 lakh
Online (PW/Unacademy/Vedantu)₹4K–1.5 lakhNil₹4K–1.5 lakh

Kota buys the most competitive peer environment and the deepest test ecosystem in the country — but it also carries the hostel bill and the mental cost of living away from home at 16. For many students a local branch of the same institute captures most of the classroom benefit at a fraction of the total. Online is cheapest of all, and works only with genuine self-discipline.

The hidden costs nobody quotes

The headline fee is rarely the whole bill. Budget for:

How much a scholarship test can save

Almost every big institute runs a scholarship-cum-admission test, and the discounts are real. A strong score can cut fees by ₹50,000–1,50,000:

TestInstituteTypical top saving
ACST / iACSTAakashup to ~90% off fees
TALLENTEX / ASATAllenup to ₹1–1.5 lakh
FTREFIITJEEup to ~100% (rare top slabs)
ResoNETResonanceup to ₹1 lakh

Sitting two or three of these before you enrol is worth it twice over — for the discount, and because the test itself is useful diagnostic practice.

Key takeaways for 2026

  1. Brand no longer sets the price — model does. The big classroom names all sit at ₹2–4 lakh; your total cost is decided by Kota vs local vs online, a ₹4 lakh-plus swing.
  2. Online has broken the price floor. Physics Wallah delivers thousands of selections a year at roughly 1/20th of a Kota programme's cost. For a disciplined self-starter it is the best value in the market.
  3. The hostel bill is the silent doubler. Kota living can cost more than the coaching itself — always price the all-in figure, not the fee.
  4. Scholarship tests are underused. A few hours of testing can save ₹50,000–1,50,000. Almost no downside.
  5. Verify before you pay. After the early-2025 FIITJEE centre closures, confirm any centre's current operational status and refund policy in writing before enrolling — see our JEE coaching guide for the detail.

Methodology

Fee ranges are compiled from institutes' publicly published fee structures, batch brochures and prospectuses, cross-checked against WIB's own comparison guides for NEET coaching and IIT-JEE coaching, and set out as ranges because fees vary by city, batch, and residential versus day-scholar status. Figures are indicative for the 2026 admission cycle; always confirm the current fee and scholarship slab on the institute's own website before enrolling.
